 Re: OS X 10.4 required ?
Well... it depends. The server will probably run fine under 10.2.6. The UI updates for the client require 10.4. I was trying (until 2 weeks ago) to have 10.3 be the minimum, but it was going to be very difficult to make some of the UI backwards compatible to 10.3.
Currently, Indigo users are 95%+ on Tiger already, so I don't have too much motivation to get 10.3 working; especially with 10.5 coming out soon.
Is it just the server that you need on a pre-10.4 system? If so, give it a try. You might have to hand configure the initial settings so that it launches...
Regards,
Matt

I'm running 10.3.9 on a 700mhz G3 (iBook), only Mac in the house. Is it worthwhile to install 2.0 or forego it till a hardware/OS upgrade ? Thanks,
Ken

Hi Ken,
The client won't let you launch it under 10.3.9 since portions of the UI would be broken / crash prone. Any chance you can upgrade that machine to 10.4?

Matt

 Tiger was docile
Ken,
I resisted a long time putting Tiger on my wife's 900mz/640 MB iBook because I thought it would "eat it up." However, the process went super smooth and so now we have a portable Indigo 2.0 Client where ever in the house she may be.

"Tiger was docile" LOL, thanks Norm. Looks like it's time to put the tiger in the tank...
Tiger's on the way Matt. I'm holding off the 2.0b install till I upgrade the OS.

I run Tiger at work on a 450Mhz PowerMac G4 w/1.5Gb of RAM and it works well. I don't do anything heavy on it, mail, web, terminal but I use it all day long and other than programs taking a bit longer to open (still acceptable just not as fast as my PB or Intel Mini) it works quite well.

I'm currently trying to install the server component on an old G3 running 10.2.8 and I'm stuck in the process...
First, I installed Indigo 2 Beta. Next, I copied the Preferences I created using a more recent machine into the correct folder on the old Mac. The console was telling me that IndigoServer was missing the following libraries:
Python (installed off the proper installer for 10.2)
libstdc++.6.dylib (copied from a Mac running 10.4)
libgcc_s.1.dylib (copied from a Mac running 10.4)
libssl.0.9.7.dylib (copied from a Mac running 10.4)
libcrypto.0.9.7.dylib (copied from a Mac running 10.4)
libmx.A.dylib (copied from a Mac running 10.4)
Now, IndigoServer is throwing the following error:
dyld: ... IndigoServer Undefined symbols: ... undefined reference to _kCFDDateFormatterTimeZone expected to be defined in CoreFoundation
Any way around it? Thanks!
Sylvain

I ran into that issue (DateTimeFormatter) awhile ago when trying to install Indigo 1.6 or 1.8 on a 10.2 Beige G3 and never got it to work. It's a change in the Cocoa API's.

Hi Sylvain,
Unfortunately, I was wrong on my previous post. I think it is possible to get the server running under 10.3 presuming you copy over the settings files like you did, but it won't be possible under 10.2.x.

Matt

Thanks Matt. I'll stick to 1.8 then as it works perfectly and start saving for a new Mac...
