Post New ToggleLink switch not being recognized. What is wrong?
I installed an additional ToggleLink switch (2466S). The switch works just fine in manual mode turning the lights on and off. When attempting to get the device recognized by the system, it fails.

The process I used was:
a) I selected "New" device.
b) Named it.
c) Then selected "Define and sync".
d) In the window I entered the device address then "start".

I get an error window saying "device is not responding". Letting it run it then gives a new window saying "failed to establish a link with the device".

Things I have tried:
a) Changing the device hardware (I had a spare). Same problem.
b) Linking the device using the controller and setting the device without entering the device address. Same problem.

I have two controllers, on opposite circuits. Other devices work just fine (another 2466 switch and two 2457 LampLinks).

Any ideas?

Gary

Copy/paste the entries from the event log window when you try to do a define and sync into a follow-on post.

Thanks for the quick response Jay.

Weird. I tried it now and it worked, though barely. I say barely because I still got the initial error message "device not responding".

Here was the log for my failed attempts, and after that is the log for the ultimately successful attempt.. Can you see anything that might lead you to a conclusion about what was happening? I ask because I'm going to add another switch tomorrow.

Regards,
Gary

It's a signal issue (99% sure), maybe noise. Either something is periodically making noise or it's located right on the edge of signal range. Try moving your Access Points around some - that might change the signal path and strengthen the circuit that the TL is on.

OK. Signal issue makes sense.

Jay, can you help me to understand what devices constitute an Access Point?

I'd hate to randomly move a wall outlet device (2457 LampLinc) only to find out that it was irrelevant.

Gary

Any dual-band module is an AccessPoint, so if you have a dual-band LampLinc then that would work. There are also dedicated AccessPoint RF modules, which functionally is the same minus the lamp controlling ability. The PowerLinc 2413U (but not the 2412U or 2414U) is also dual-band, so that can act as one side of the bridging. Of course, moving the PowerLinc to a different outlet might be a bit more difficult since it is tethered to your Mac by the USB cable.

Thoughts?

Sounds like the same problem -- either signal noise or you don't have enough RF modules to bridge your 110V power legs. How many modules do you have, and what exact models are they? And which PowerLinc do you have?
