Re: Can't seem to get both iPhones to appear on the map
bschollnick2 wrote:hamw wrote:I'm setting up FMID again. Have put in my MobileMe credentials in the initial config panel and set up my phone. FMID works fine in that regard. However, although I've set up a separate device for my wife's phone and placed her MobileMe Family pack sub account as her credentials she does not show up on the map and there is not an entry for her, only for me. The settings dialog for each phone shows a pull-down for the individual phones, so it seems the devices are set up properly.
The info boxes for the both devices report the exact same information for battery strength and all other parameters.
Both phones have location data turned on, have the latest Find My iPhone app, and both phones are located with MobileMe service under their respective username/passwords. I'm running 4.3.3 on the phones.
I've deleted and redone the devices, re-entered the data, etc. Trying to see if there was something with my account, I made her account the FMID config username/password and now it only reports her phone's location. Any ideas?
Contact me directly at benjamin AT schollnick DOT net, and I'll send you a beta that may help resolve the issue.
Do you have this beta posted publicly somewhere where others can download and test it as well?

 Re: Find my iDevices!
I've been getting these red error messages below in my Event Log all day today. Is this happening cause of an error in the "Find My iDevice" plugin or is it something with Apple's servers cause it looks like a log in issue? I haven't updated/changed/altered anything in the plugin or on Apple's Find My iPhone/iCloud and it started doing this. I did install Indigo 5.0.2 and rebooted the PowerMac G4 though. - Code: Select all
Traceback (most recent call last): File "plugin.py", line 560, in runConcurrentThread File "plugin.py", line 495, in run_search_for_idevices File "plugin.py", line 324, in login_to_MobileMe <type 'exceptions.AttributeError'>: 'Plugin' object has no attribute 'current_MobileMe_Login'
Find My IDevices Error plugin runConcurrentThread function returned or failed; will attempt again in 10 seconds Find My IDevices Error Error in plugin execution runConcurrentThread:
UPDATE: I think I just fixed the issue by going into the Find My iDevice plugin's configuration and clicking save.

Go into all of your Find My iDevice devices, change the Plugin Type to another plugin, and then change it back. Some fields have changed, and this process should fix the problem. >UPDATE: I think I just fixed the issue by going into the Find My iDevice plugin's configuration and clicking save.
I missed your update. That could work. I usually change the plugin type, but that's because I discovered this method much earlier in the beta cycle... - Ben

Not yet, but I will be releasing it later this week. Once the release version is out, I will look at refactoring it to clean up some of the verbose messages.... But I will need to concentrate on the Switchboard project next... (I am playing around with calling the new "security plugin" switchboard. I think it describes it's features better... Either that or 'The MCP') - Ben

I haven't noticed any issues, but I haven't had a chance to check.... It's possible that Apple has yet again changed the version number for Find my iPhone service... I'll do some checking and see...

This pretty much confirms that there was a backend change on Find My iPhone mechanism... I'll have to do some checking and get a patch ready.... But I don't recall seeing any updates to Find My iPhone, and that usually precedes any backend changes..... Interesting....

v1.22 updates the code to work with the backend changes that Apple made. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/241415/Find%20M ... 0v1.22.zip

Why do you think they keep making these changes? Seems lime the basics should remain the same. Sorry you have to keep shepherding this plugin!

 Re: Find my iDevices!
To be fair, Apple never published this as a supported API - so anyone using it does so at their own risk. This is pretty much exactly why we really don't like using reverse-engineered specs when building product. We have done so in the past, but it is a risk that a developer needs to recognize from the get-go.
Why do they change it? Because they're making other types of changes that probably have side-effects. Normal operation of the web side isn't effected and that's what they care about/test against. This type of thing happens with their Cocoa APIs as well - which is why apps get rejected from the various App Stores when they use internal (undocumented) APIs.

Exactly.... This is one reason I have considered using Google Latitude... I may need to seriously reconsider the Apple API's, simply because of this hassle..... All that's needed to change a version # in the HTTP communication headers... But it's annoying... - Ben
