iMeter Solo - INSTEON Power Meter
Does Indigo provide support for these Insteon modules? http://www.smarthome.com/2423A1/iMeter- ... -In/p.aspxThanks, Jim

Re: iMeter Solo - INSTEON Power Meter
Not currently. The iMeter is a completely different type of device - adding it to Indigo will require creating a new classification of device so it's not a trivial add. We'll look to support it sometime in the next major release (Indigo 5) perhaps in the initial release or more likely a follow-up.

Re: iMeter Solo - INSTEON Power Meter
Since the iMeter Solo is supported by Indigo 5, is there a way to get current wattage via applescript?

Re: iMeter Solo - INSTEON Power Meter
Nope - it's only available via Python scripts.

I assume there is some way that I can bridge the python to get the data in my scripts?

Re: iMeter Solo - INSTEON Power Meter
The easiest way to do it would be to just create a trigger that watches the current watts and when theres a change update a variable using the Insert Device State into Variable action in the Action Collection. The state you'll want is "energyInput1". Then you can just use that variable in your scripts.

Where is "Insert Device State into Variable"? This is all I see: Attachment:

Re: iMeter Solo - INSTEON Power Meter
It's in the Action Collection plugin - select "Plugin" then select "Action Collection".

Re: iMeter Solo - INSTEON Power Meter
Will i be able to get any functionality with the imeter solo using Indigo 5 and a Powerlinc 2414u? It doesn't have the extended commands. I don't need to see anything fancy besides just the current load.

Re: iMeter Solo - INSTEON Power Meter
Unfortunately, it won't work with the 2414U. The only way to get the current watts and cumulative kWh from the module is via extended commands.

Re: iMeter Solo - INSTEON Power Meter
Looking down the road, does it seem logical that future INSTEON modules would have iMeter like logic integrated into Switchlinc dimmers, Appliancelinc modules, etc? That way, a new user buying components would essentially be able to monitor whole house energy consumption within Indigo on a device level basis or look at data by time of day, etc. What's the consensus on the idea? Does anyone think that Indigo could facilitate this if the hardware was available? Are there hardware constraints that would prevent incorporating this type of feature into many of the most commonly used (perhaps non-RF) INSTEON devices like switchlinc, keypadlinc, outletlinc, appliancelinc, etc? I assume it's possible to currently monitor the entire house like the electric meter reports to the power company. Correct? But that wouldn't separate out controlled INSTEON devices vs. non-controlled items. I think understanding power consumption data for optimizing energy use on controlled devices is just as important as getting those devices to do what we want them to do, right? Lighting, AC, and large appliances would be most important to understand with possible energy savings through modifying schedules etc. That said, if new hardware compatible with Indigo became available, I'm not sure i'd really spend the $$$ to upgrade everything in my house. Re: iMeter Solo - INSTEON Power Meter
I have no idea what SmartLabs' intentions are, but I agree it would be great to see the energy measuring capabilities in more modules. Some Indigo users are using the TED system for monitoring whole house electrical usage. A couple of users have worked on plugins for both the TED 1000-Series and TED 5000-Series. That doesn't provide per-appliance level detail, but is still pretty useful.

Re: iMeter Solo - INSTEON Power Meter
Hi ,
I haven't installed the iMeter Solo and its corresponding display yet but want to. I have read the posts above and have a few questions which will decide whether I install it or not. My first presumption is that I have to upgrade to Indigo 5 which I understand will support this module....correct? When I plugged it in, and pushed the button to have Indigo identify it, it did see it, but would not register it. I am thinking that's because I haven't upgraded to Indigo 5 yet and I don't believe Indigo 4.1.19 supports this device. At this point I don't plan to do anything fancy that I understand something called "Extended commands" are is required but for the ordinary use, i.e. monitoring the electricity the device is plugged into the iMeter, is using, will Indigo 5 work ? Thanks for any information you can provide....I currently use 2414u. If this won't work with the 2414u, is there any other device that I can add which would enable it to work with Indigo or am I just out of luck?
