 Mac Mini Sleeping
Hey,
For some time now my Mini, running 10.5, has been going into a sudo sleep mode after an hour or so making many of Indigos actions incredibly slow to execute.
I've set the prefs to never sleep and keep the HD running but it still dozes off.
Anyone else seeing this or found a way to keep it alert?
Thanks,
Carl

 Re: Mac Mini Sleeping
I'd try running the Activity Monitor in your Utilities folder and check on CPU usage and System Memory usage. When my G4 Mini slows down like that, it's because CPU usage is stuck at nearly 100%, or the Free Memory is near zero, causing loads of page outs to disk. You may find a process that's using most of the Mini's resources.

 Re: Mac Mini Sleeping
Could it be that the Mini is getting to hot where it's located? Is in located in direct sun? I know that happens with my iPad when it gets too hot. After searching on the Internet, it does sound like a possible heat problem. You might want to check that the fans are working. You can even download a program like smcFanControl where you can override the fan settings to spin faster and cool the computer.

 Re: Mac Mini Sleeping
Definitely not a heat problem. It's in a cool, protected cabinet. I do have other Macs with the same settings that don't fall asleep.
Thanks,
Carl

 Re: Mac Mini Sleeping
the best way to troubleshoot things like these are with system logs (console app), and monitoring tools such as activity monitor to monitor such things as disk, network, and memory: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1342There is no way to tell exactly what is wrong when a person simply states "it's slow" we need to know the who what where when why and how...in other words the most detailed information you can give.

Considering it was stated that indigo is slow on command, line noise? (Unless non device commands are slow also) Have a screen saver running? (long shot)

 Re: Mac Mini Sleeping
The "slowness" is occurring when the mini falls asleep, as one might expect. It runs fine once it's fully "awake". Since I have to wake up the machine to view what's going on with it I'm not sure how to monitor anything while it's in it's sleep mode, which of course is when I have the slow responses to triggers, actions etc.
Just can't figure how to keep it awake.

Turn on ALL the sleep stuff. Reboot twice (just to really lock it in) verifying each time its working right. Then turn it all off, reboot twice.
