Post x10 cameras with EvoCam and Indigo
Maybe someone can help me with this one. I am a paid user of both Indigo and Evocam and I love them both. I am also using two true network IP cameras for security, and have them set up separately fine. What I can't seem to do is have them go through Evocam and show up in my Indigo control pages. I have seen some conversations about this, so I know people are using this setup. Is there anyone out there who can give this beginer some step by step instructions as to how they did this? Thank you very much!

On a side note, I want to expand my system, but have a question. Do x10 cameras work with EvoCam and Indigo to show up in control pages? They are a lot cheaper than using all IP cameras. Thanks again for all the great help I have found on the forum.

This is, without modifying the python code for the Indigo Web server, not currently possible. The problem is showing an updating image or video stream on the Control Page. Some folks have proposed solutions that show an image, but I don't believe the image refreshes.

I posted on this thread how to use the Indigo Web server to server Security Spy or Evo Cam image files that update. Note, however, that it is served on a dedicate page and not embedded inside a Control Page.

Getting video or updating images embedded in Control Pages is a high priority feature though. So hopefully the next major rev of Indigo will support this better.

I'm not sure if they will or not. Perhaps if you used the InterView USB video input device it would work. I would recommend sticking with IP cameras. I picked up a couple of D-Link DCS-910s from Fry's the other day for $80 each. Not the best camera in the world, but pretty descent. And probably better than the X10 cameras. :-) I did have to use a Windows machine to set their network settings, but after that the Mac works well (including using SecuritySpy).

Regards,
Matt

Did this find it's way into current releases?

Not yet. We're looking at it for 5.0 but we haven't decided whether it will make it or not.

Thank You, would be a good feature, actually to forward any internal webpage to a control page would be cool. That way any internal server URL could be part of a single point of control. Puts Indigo as the center of the Digital Home.

In the mean time, this worked for those interested.

1) Turn on FTP on the Mac
2) In EvoCam, set to save a PNG file to a FTP site (the Mac) with a file name known
3) in the directory

Code: Select all
/Library/Application Support/Perceptive Automation/Indigo 4/IndigoWebServer/images/controls/static

Create a symbolic link to the file

Code: Select all
ln -s /Path_To_file_real_image/ImageName.png NameFor_Indigo.png

4) On the control page set a new object as
Code: Select all
Display= Static Image / Caption
Image = NameFor_Indigo.png
Caption = [blank]
Client action = Link to External URL = hrrp://IP_Address_of EvoCam/webcam.html

This will give a static picture on the control page that is Click-able to the live view from EvoCam

If your setup is like mine, this will only work at home, as the 'external link' is a private address. I am thinking of duplicating the control page for one hone, and one away, and point to a 'NAT' URL for the away.
