 Indigo is hijacking my bandwith!
I have a serious and weird problem. The internet in my apartment is suddenly (as of the last month) very unstable. I also have bandwith problems. Seeing as i run a lot of applications on my Indigo machine, I tried finding out if there was something wrong with the machine and how it accessed the Internet. My fiber provider did find that something was wrong during pinging but didnt tell me what, and asked me to call again next week. I'm inpatient and having random internet is a no-go for me.
I have only tried online speed measurement tools, but there is a difference of 5-10 Mbit drop whenever Indigo is running. When i quit Indigo i also quit Indigoserver. There is no difference if I have the goprism option on or off.
What causes Indigo to steal my bandwidth? I run the latest version, 4.1.16.

Re: Indigo is hijacking my bandwith!
To be honest, I don't see how Indigo could possibly be the culprit here.
If you just have the Indigo client and Indigo Server running, but have no other active connections to it (no other Indigo clients connected, no other browsers open pointing to an Indigo Web page, etc.) then the network bandwidth used by Indigo will be zero.
The only possibility that I can think of that would explain any Indigo correlation would be an AppleScript that Indigo is running which could be doing network I/O -- so try removing and disabling all AppleScripts in Indigo.
It sounds to me like the problem must be with: your cable/dsl modem, router, other networking hardware (switches, cables, etc.), or your ISP. It could also be a corrupt Mac OS X problem I suppose.
I suggest you continue to troubleshoot other possibilities. Please let us know what you find.

Re: Indigo is hijacking my bandwith!
The reason for blaming Indigo initially is this:
Download results with Indigo running:4-5 Mbit Download results without Indigo running:15-18 Mbit
I will check my Applescripts for sure! I think I have some weatherscripts that I'm not really using, as I never got them to work.
When you say there may be something wrong with Mac OSX, did you mean that it may be wrong only when Indigo is running?
My ISP did notice something wrong, but had to set me up with a technician next week to find out what. As such, I had to disable my AIrport Extreme and only run wired Internet to one single machine. Currently my ISPs router provides the WiFi. I'll keep you updated as I find out more.

Very unlikely, but it is possible the OS is corrupt in some way that causes issues when Indigo is running. It may happen when other applications run as well -- you may just not be running those other apps.

Re: Indigo is hijacking my bandwith!
Just my 2 cents. I had a serious bandwidth slow down (back in the Windoze days) I called my ISP and they told me they will throttle my bandwidth based on port usage. They were trying to curtail P2P file sharing. Possible a port in Indigo isn't liked by your ISP?
Just a thought, but doubt its it.

Re: Indigo is hijacking my bandwith!
Ok, so a little update here is called for. The problem where with my IPS! All they did was update their router to the latest software version and it worked again. Now, why I lost all my bandwith when Indigo was running, I dont know. It works now, none the less! Thanks for your replies
