Post Lutron integration
Hello everyone,

I am interested in using Lutron elements in my X10 home automation installation. I was wondering if you know of any way to connect Lutron equipment to Indigo? Or maybe a bridge of some kind between X10 and Lutron?

(FYI, I would gladly have gone with Insteon equipment, but since it's not available in Europe as of now, I have to go with Lutron to connect B&O equipment in my automation installation...)

Many thanks!

I'm not sure about a Lutron <-> X10 bridge. I've never seen one.

Lutron does have RS232 serial interfaces (like the RA-RS232 for RadioRA) for most of their technologies. This would allow you to control Lutron via Serial Bridge and AppleScript. It will require you to write, in AppleScript, the code needed to implement Lutron's RS232 protocol, however. Once you have Serial Bridge communication with the Lutron RS232 protocol, you can use AppleScript to tie it into Indigo somewhat. By somewhat I mean that the virtual Lutron Devices in Indigo won't seamlessly work as Lutron devices but it can be hacked in there a bit. I'm working on some changes for a future version of Indigo that will let additional hardware capability (like Lutron) to be added to Indigo as a plugin, which will make this a bit better but will still require someone to write the Lutron RS232 protocol to Indigo plugin code.

Regards,
Matt

Hi Matt,

I a previous post you mentioned the possibility of "a future version of Indigo that will let additional hardware capability (like Lutron) to be added to Indigo as a plugin". Has there been any Lutron integration progress?

Not yet. We are working on Indigo 5 which will include a plugin architecture that will make adding support for 3rd party hardware more feasible. However, the public beta of 5 is still several months out and someone will need to develop the plugin (possibly us, possibly a 3rd party / other user / etc.).

Now that Indigo 5 is out with its plugin architecture, one of our users has created a Lutron RadioRA plugin.
