Is there any way short of surgery to dim or preferably turn off the LED on the thermostat adapter when it's not needed for linking, etc? Once again Smarthome overachieves in LED brightness...

White fingernail polish. You don't really need the led to link, just hold the button and eventually you'll get it in to the right mode. And if for some reason you can't, you just scrape the polish off with your fingernail and then reapply when done.
White electrical tape works good on access points, since they are low and not readily visible, but the thermostat adaptor tends to be in an easily-viewable location so that would look a bit cheap.

 first rev of the adapter
has this been fixed since this was written? What's the current rev?
thanks
support wrote:dduff617 wrote:is this an oversight? perhaps not considered important enough to warrant having an action? or should another action be added called "get fan mode"?
The thermostat adapter does not have a command to get the fan status. Instead, if the auto/cool/heat mode is OFF, then when Indigo asks for the mode status it will return if the fan is in the AUTO or ALWAYS ON mode. But there is no way for Indigo to poll out the status unless the mode is OFF. Indigo treats the fan status as an independent state from the auto/cool/heat mode (because it should be), but in this case it is impossible for Indigo to determine the value via polling. I put in a request a while back for this to be changed, but it didn't make it into the first rev of the adapter. Regards, Matt

See this thread.
Short answer...new version just came out that provides more access to status. May take a while for it to be integrated into Indigo.

Re: Official Insteon/Venstar Thermostat How To Thread
- Installed the Venstar T1900 used existing wires; Test = ok
- Installed the Venstar RJ11 Phone bottom plug-in sensor module = ok
- Installed the Venstar Phone module between line-in and answering machine; Test = ok (about 2 week daily use, switching between Comfort/Energy savings modes)
- Installed outside Temperature sensor; Test (1 day) so far = ok
Just learned, that apparently the Venstar RF (RJ11) plugin module, although in appearance same/similar to the Insteon;
IT CAN NOT COMMUNICATE WITH Indigo?
Is this True/False? If True, any suggestions?
I need the phone access control (Vacations with no Internet access) - but when I will install Indigo (future) I would like to also "see the T1900".
Thanks

Also, I would very much like to see examples of how you are integrating thermostat control in to your control pages ... I am looking for ideas I just integrated Insteon Thermostat control in to my Indigo control page today and it is working well so far. I live waterfront and only have heat, no AC, so all that I have implemented so far are two heating set points and polling for room temp ... outside temp is provided by the NOAA Attachment script.

I strongly suspect that the Venstar phone adapter is not compatible with insteon or x-10, and probably uses a proprietary protocol, which means that it won't work with Indigo.
Someone with access to the interface specs on the RJ-11 jack might be able to discern whether a Y-adapter would work; I would NOT be inclined to try without knowledge of the interface as it could fry one or all three units.
You may have to choose between internet and phone access.

The two adaptors are, in fact, mutually exclusive. An alternative is to have something else control Indigo via phone (Indigo would then control the thermostat). Several users have successfully used Ovolab's Phlink and Parilant's PhoneValet to do this. It would require some extensive AppleScripting however.

 Get / Set Humidity points?
I just installed the T1800 with Humidity sensor, and have no problems reading temp set points, current temp, current humidity, or changing current temp set points.
However, I seem to be unable to get the two humidity set points or change them. Can someone provide insight into how to do this?
SmartHome support informs me their interface module is able to pass on and control these settings, but can't help me with how to get Indigo to get to them.
Any help appreciated.
Niels. (Who is just evaluating Indigo for the first time and loving it)

Re: Get / Set Humidity points?
Hello Niels,
Unfortunately, I believe the person you spoke to at Smarthome was mistaken. We were part of the INSTEON Thermostat Adapter (both rev1 and rev2), and information /documentation on that capability never came up and it would have. John from Smarthome normally reads this forum, and I'm sure he'll correct me if I'm mistaken.

Re: Official Insteon/Venstar Thermostat How To Thread
I noticed that when the thermostat comes on, Indigo logs it as "thermostat" on. And when it goes off it logs "thermostat" off. Now I tried to use this in my control page to see when the heat comes on but it does not work. It seems that Indigo just logs the data but doesn't process it. I tried to make a trigger when thermostat (on), set variable to thermostat (true). But it does not work, any ideas? I get thermostat (on) in Indigo log when the heat comes on or the AC.

Take a look at this attachment script... http://www.schollnick.net/wordpress/hom ... e-monitor/

I saw that I would really like to use the message coming straight from the thermostat. Since Indigo sees it, I don't understand why I can't use it.

You can, but what you can do with that information is somewhat limited. Sure as you mentioned you could change a variable based on that, but Indigo doesn't have any way to setup a timer to measure how long the furnace has run. Is there something in particular you are trying to track?

I am not really interested in logging the information. I need it for a virtual thermostat and to be able to turn on an auxiliary fan when the AC comes on. So I would like to use the on and off message that is coming from the thermostat. Since Indigo logs it, I don't understand why I can't use it as a trigger.

Copy/paste what you are seeing in the Event Log so I have a better understanding of the message you want to trigger off of.
