 Looking for USB hub recommendations.
I have a D-Link DUB-H7 and it sometimes drops the connection giving a USB error. Matt has advised the following;
http://www.perceptiveautomation.com/php ... 3260#23260
"The most common cause of this is having the USB adapter plugged into an external USB hub. Hub's will sometimes drop the connection/power to the adapter, which from the OS's perspective means it was momentarily disconnected. Obviously, you can only plug so many USB devices into your Mac itself, so not using a hub may not be an option. I imagine some USB hubs are much more reliably in this regards than others, so I would recommend trying a different brand hub if you cannot plug it directly into your Mac."
Anyone using a hub that doesn't give disconnection errors?
thanks,
bob

 USB hubs
Bob,
I can confirm that the Dlink DUB-H7 does not work with either the Keyspan adapter (for a w800) or for the 2414U. There is apparently nothing "Universal" about USB.
I do have an old Dlink DSB-H4 (USB 1.1) hub that seems to work fine so far with the Keyspan/W8000 combo, but does not work with the 2414U.
Hopefully if we can keep this thread going someone will chime in with some news of a hub that works.

FWIW, my PowerLinc controller is plugged directly into an iMac USB port to ensure reliability. All other devices are hung off of a powered USB hub. I have no W800/Keyspan.
Is there a W800 that is USB-native?

As far as I know, there is only the serial version:

you need a keyspan serial-USB adapter to use the W800 over a USB connection.
What hub are you using?

I've replaced my W800RF32 with a RFXCOM module.
That has native USB support.

does the rfxcom work through a hub? If so, I am really tempted...
on the other hand, unless I am mistaken, it does not look like you can run the antenna to a different location using just RG6 like I did with the W800.

It's connected to a USB port on the mini. But I've also used a unknown cheap brand USB Hub with the W800RF32 and can't recall I had any serious problems with that.

Re: Looking for USB hub recommendations.
I'm answering my original post here.
I switched to a Belkin F5U237 seven port hub and it seemed OK for a few months then I started to get the odd failure which ended up being the hub randomly disconnecting a port for some reason. Then I was updating my iPod which was plugged into the hub and I hear a "clunk" - my USB relay board drops off line. Unplug the iPod and all is fine. I was fed up so I googled "industrial strength USB Hub". Long story short I bought a Moxa Uport 7. Expensive you betcha, reliable, so far I can't fault it.
The power supply has a locking connector or you can use a battery supply if you want. I haven't lost a connection once.
