A couple of options that are what I would consider: the Insteon Garage Door kit (comes with an I/O Linc and a door sensor) or the GoControl Smart Garage Door Controller. There are wiki articles to help with the former and the latter requires a little work to get working I believe. Of course, you could also go with a MyQ Hub and the MyQ plugin, though you may also need to add a separate sensor to get real-time status (open or closed) of the door.

Normal switches in those locations? Insteon or Z-Wave (we recommend the HomeSeer W*200 Z-Wave switches) would work nicely. If any are in a shallow or crowded J-Box you should know that the HS switches are deeper than the Insteon switches so take up a little more room.

Yeah, for Z-Wave you'd need a Z-Wave interface. There are
several that we've personally tested with Indigo and work well.
