 Indigo Touch Feature Request - Airplay
I'm thinking of the model where an Indigo user has several iPad/iPTouch mounted permanently (or semi-perm) as HA controllers throughout their home. In this model Indigo Touch is the primary app active and in the foreground. It would be cool if the iPad was connected to some amplified speakers and if Indigo Touch acted as an Airplay client. One could then build a whole house audio solution using primarily Indigo. The server side could still rely on Airfoil to distribute to Indigo Touch as it would any other Airplay client. It might even be possible to integrate Rogue Amoeba's speaker client code into Indigo Touch - that sounds like a win-win for both companies. What's that? We can have it in the next release of Touch?? Thanks guys, y'all are the best! Terry

Well... between the Airfoil plugin and control pages, aren't we pretty much there anyway?

Well, not really. The airfoil speaker client on iOS doesn't run in the background so as far as I can tell there is no way to push audio to an iPad while keeping Indigo Touch running in the foreground.

 Re: Indigo Touch Feature Request - Airplay
Hate to disagree - but right now I'm running the latest Airfoil speakers app in the background on my iPhone with Indigo Touch up in the foreground.
And as feature requests go, I'm sorry to say it's quite low on the priority list. We have a BUNCH of other higher-priority items that will likely take up all of the next cycle of Indigo Touch development. And implementing it is likely to be significant work.

@russell: I like that idea.
As Jay pointed out, the Airfoil Speakers iOS app does support background playback of audio being streamed to the iOS device. However, the last time I tested it anyway, it was only background-able for existing streams. i.e. You can't connect to iOS Airfoil Speakers if it's in the background, only if it's in the foreground. Once a stream is connected to the iOS device, then you can put Airfoil Speakers in the background and it will continue to receive the audio stream until Airfoil disconnects from it.

You might want to take a look at the Muse Control iOS app. It will let you control AirFoil from an iOS device - you can select sources, select, deselect and change volume on remote speakers and even have some control over Pandora and last.fm. So, from the HA iPad, you could have complete control over the music. Not sure if this would work with multiple instances of AirFoil though.

Interesting thread. Can you explain the advantage of having an iPad/touch act as an airplay client feeding an amplified speaker? I am sure you are aware that an airport express can solve this problem out of the box. Heck there are airplay capable amplified speakers. Here is one http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-20122410-1/audyssey-intros-new-airplay-speaker-lower-east-side-audio-dock-air/?tag=mncol;txt Just curious.

Yeah I'm aware of what the AE can do, looking to save $99 for each of 12 zones of audio though. I've seen several airplay portables, but none that connect to in-ceiling speakers. The goal in this model was to have only an iPad, small amp and in-ceiling speakers per zone. Terry
