Post Support for Insteon Energy Display (2448A2)
I'm wondering if this device is supported, or if not, if it's being considered? It's an Insteon RF display of data from up to 3 iMeter Solo devices, as well as it's own built-in thermometer.

I would like to be able to read the temperature in my apartment and control the fireplace, fans, etc in response to it. We're on baseboard heating so a Venstar isn't an economical option. With a few key devices already integrated into my Insteon setup for heating and cooling, I'm wondering if this $30 device will allow me to read and respond to the ambient temp in my apt with Indigo.

Thanks in advance!

Hrm, now that I look at it more closely it doesn't seem readily apparent that one could read the temperature with this device via Insteon, however I'm not entirely sure of that. Someone referenced this capability for this device in this thread (second post down), which is why I ask. At $30 it'd be a great deal for this capability!

It's on our list of new devices to look at but no ETA.

Did this make it into 5.1?

If not, without divulging dates, can you say anything about what other insteon devices are ahead of it in the list?

I've tried everything I can think of to get it to broadcast out temperature changes, but cannot get it to work. And polling out the temperatures isn't going to help because it is a battery operated module and cannot be woken up remotely.

Matt/Jay,

Do you guys have the dev notes for the energy display? I'm looking at them right now and I see that temperature is sent out.

Built-in sensor displays room temperature on device and sends a broadcast to linked PLM every 3 minutes if temp changes.

Group 4: PLM for temp broadcast

Temperature Reporting:
Link the energy display group 4 to a PLM. Temperature will be checked every 3 minutes. If it changes more than 1 degree C, a broadcast will be sent out with the temperature (Example below).
Energy Display ID: AA BB CC
Broadcast: AA BB CC 00 00 04 8F 6E 40 1A
40 hex64 dec, 64 * 0.5 degree C = 32 degree C

Yep, I did work on adding support for it quite a while back. To be honest, I don't recall exactly how far I got.

It might work as-is for just getting the temperature into Indigo (give it a try and let me know). I need to make another pass at supporting it though to QA it and see what is missing. Not sure when I'll have time for that though...

Matt, No luck:

PowerLinc Linking - syncing PowerLinc links (address 18.B7.09)
PowerLinc Linking - . . adding: INSTEON plc link to controller 1A.92.C5, flags 03, group 01, data 00 00 FF
PowerLinc Linking - . . adding: (not added -- probably already exists)
PowerLinc Linking - sync complete
PowerLinc Linking - sending engine version request to 1A.92.C5
PowerLinc Linking - PowerLinc links updated
PowerLinc Linking - received engine version 01 from 1A.92.C5
PowerLinc Linking - sending id request for device information to 1A.92.C5
PowerLinc Linking - received id request response from 1A.92.C5
Error Linking - no match found for device type ID 2317 with firmware version 27
Error linking failed
PowerLinc Linking - entered discovery linking mode (240 seconds)
PowerLinc Linking - received module button pressed from 1A.92.C5
PowerLinc Linking - exited linking mode

Has anyone had any luck with the Energy Display temperature readings? I'd sure like a cheap temperature sensor.

It doesn't link. Indigo would need an update.

Can it be linked manually, then read through Indigo?

We worked on getting this device working during Smarthome's beta period - and were never successful getting the data from it and we haven't tried since.

We recommend an RFXrec433 and oregon sensors for reliable temp sensing. It's more expensive but it also works very reliably.

Thanks! That looks like a good solution - I'll give it a try.

OK I got those units, only to find a near-vacuum of information for how to configure them and incorporate them into AppleScript. Help.

Asking the same question in two places is rarely necessary.
