Post Powerlinc 1132U not working under Snow Leopard
I upgraded to Snow Leopard last night, and Indigo 4.1.0 b3 is not connecting to my Powerlinc 1132U anymore. I've reinstalled Indigo, power and cable cycled the 1132U...no joy.

Here's a snippet from my Event Log:

Sep 11, 2009 10:16:30 PM
Error usb connection failed -- retrying connection for 5 seconds
Error DeviceAddedCallback() caught exception: UsbCommunicationError -- failed to create plugin interface
Error usb reconnect error: timeout trying to reconnect
Error failed to establish connection with main interface

I looked in System Profiler, and here's the report on the 1132U:

Composite Device:

Product ID: 0x0001
Vendor ID: 0x10bf
Version: 4.00
Speed: Up to 1.5 Mb/sec
Location ID: 0x04300000
Current Available (mA): 500
Current Required (mA): Unknown (Device has not been configured)

I don't know what the report looked like in Leopard.

So, I'm not sure if this is an Indigo issue, and if it's a problem between the 1132U and Snow Leopard. Can anyone confirm that they have this configuration and it's working? Can anyone provide the System Profile report (if it differs)?

I'll await the next Indigo beta, but I didn't see this issue identified in any other problem reports, and so I wonder if it's specific to my setup.

Thanks.

I've made slight progress, but still have not solved the problem.

After removing all other USB devices from the bus (it's an early-2009 Intel Mac Mini), it now seems to recognize the 1132U.

From System Profiler:

SmartHome PowerLinc USB:

Product ID: 0x0001
Vendor ID: 0x10bf
Version: 4.00
Speed: Up to 1.5 Mb/sec
Manufacturer: SmartHome
Location ID: 0x06400000
Current Available (mA): 500
Current Required (mA): Unknown (Device has not been configured)

However, Indigo is still behaving the same way -- not connecting to the 1132U, and I get the same error messages in the log.

I reinstalled Indigo, etc. -- still no joy.

Thanks for any advice you may be able to offer. Is the solution to get a newer Powerlinc, e.g., 2412 or 2414?

Hi Joe,

It sounds like you've tried switching USB ports and swapping the cables? If so, then I think your PowerLinc has malfunctioned. Those are low-level driver errors you are seeing in Indigo's Event Log which normally mean a malfunctioning PowerLinc, bad USB cable, etc. Sometimes very excessive power line noise can cause the PowerLinc to fail to communicate via USB correctly, but that is rare and I think I've only heard of it happening with the 2414U. But you can still make sure that isn't the case by unplugging any UPSs and trying the 1132U in a different outlet (use an extension cord if need be). If that still doesn't work, then I would get a new PowerLinc.

Matt--

Thanks for the fast reply. I tried swapping USB cables and AC outlets -- no joy, although I did have one moment of excitement when the connection started working again. But it died soon thereafter, and I'm becoming resigned to it being a failing/failed Powerlinc 1132U module. I have a 2412U on order now, and hopefully this will resolve the problem.

I'm still finding it an odd coincidence that this issue arose at the same time that I did the upgrade to Snow Leopard.

Regards

Matt--

Just a follow-up...

I received the 2412U today and plugged it in. Everything works perfectly.

Thanks for catching on that this was a 1132U module failure and not an issue with the new Snow Leopard install.

Regards
