Post Can't add new devices after Migrating to Mac Mini
In another thread

I discussed migrating from my old machine (a power PC) to a mac Mini (with an Intel processor). After moving my preferences and then reinstalling (with beta 16) everything seemed to be working fine. Indeed all events and triggers are working, and a Sync all INSTEON Links proceeded without errors.

The mac mini normally runs headless. It is connected to my television and I can power up a wireless keyboard and mouse to interact directly with it, but I normally deal with Indigo from a client on another machine. Using that machine I attempted to add two lamp-lincs to my system. There was no response. The autolink feature failed, and typing the actual address into the address field also failed.

Next I fired up the TV and the wireless mouse and keyboard. I confess I ignored some error messages in red that were present in the log window. (they were mostly off the right hand side of the TV screen which, even though high-def, has much lower resolution than my laptop screen). I figured I could read them later after I tried linking to the new devices again from the host. Several attempts at linking failed, including plugging the lamp-lincs into the "always on" port of the USB interface. Neither autolinking nor typing the address in worked.

Next I tried restarting the host machine (the mini). Unfortunately linking still doesn't work. More unfortunately, those red error messages had dissapeared from the log and were not present in the archived version of the log either. By the way, those messages did NOT appear in the log window of the client.

What should I do next?

Norman

Hi Norman,

I think something on the same circuit (and/or outlet) as the PowerLinc V2 is causing signal problems. Try unplugging everything but the PowerLinc and the mini. If it works, then I would get a FilterLinc and plug everything into it (except the PowerLinc) via a power strip. Plug the FilterLinc into the wall outlet and the power strip into it, and everything else into the power strip. The PowerLinc can plug into the pass-through outlet of the FilterLinc.

When it was working before, did you have the Mini in a different location?

Regards,
Matt
