Post Another strange thing.
I'm not sure this is a problem or not but it has left me bewildered.

I have a couple of buttons on KPLs that control individual lights and a couple that control scene. Prior to last night all the lights would just turn on and off instantly. Well I decided to get creative last night and slow down the ramp rate to between 2&4 seconds for effect. That all worked great. I even had individual buttons ramping faster than scene buttons for the same lights. I also never touched the local rate so that always comes on quickly with a direct button press.

I synched my changes to Indigo and now when I control any of those lights I changed through Indigo it ramps them at one of those slower rates. How did that happen? Is it intended for Indigo to pick up a remote ramp rate? And which one did it pick since I some lights have 2 or 3 different ones depending on scene.

It's not really a problem as I like being able to ramp them from Indigo, but it was definitely unexpected and I'm not sure how to change it back if needed.

Hmmm.... I'm not sure what is going on. Indigo sends no ramp rate information at all when controlling INSTEON devices -- it uses INSTEON direct commands which don't have a ramp byte in the command packet. These direct commands use the local ramp rate, which is the one you should see when controlling the device at the switch itself. But you said that it turns on/off instantly at the switch, right? It sounds like the switch itself got confused. You might try factory resetting one of the switches. Let me know...

Regards,
Matt

Yes at the switch it's on/off instantly.

I'll do some more testing tonight and let you know.

Ok, I figured it out Matt.

The switch is using it's last used ramp rate.

So if I local control the light (thats set for instant on) then use Indigo the light goes on instantly.

Then if I control the light remotely with a slower ramp rate and then use Indigo the light will power on at that slower ramp rate.

I can reproduce this on any Switchlinc Dimmer or LampLinc.

The only thing that is consistent is that the light always goes to 100% regardless of what the local dim level is set too.

Strange. I've observed the same behavior in a new ICON dimmer switch I installed, except that it also uses the last used dim level as well as the last used ramp rate. I don't recall this issue happening in the past with SwitchLinc Dimmer V2s or LampLinc 2s I've installed, but my recollection could be faulty and not the switches.

Are you certain this occurs with all SwitchLincs and LampLincs?

To me this seems a bug and not a feature. I don't recall reading about this behavior in the documentation. The switch should always use the pre-programmed dim level and ramp rate when operated at the switch, not the last level or rate used by a remote device.
