[ANSWERED]Newbie question on delay turn off

I've link a button on a keypad to control my nightstand light. Right now it turns on/off when the button is pushed. However, I would like it remain as an instant on but change the off to after one minute to allow me to get into bed. Can someone help me do this? Thank you.

Re: Newbie question on delay turn off

Yep.

If your trigger is currently set to toggle the nightstand, you'll need to copy it.

One will need a condition "nightstand is off" and the action will be "turn on nightstand".

The second will need a condition "nightstand is on", the action will be "turn off nightstand", but you'll tick the box that says "delay action for..." and set it to 60 seconds.

Reply back if I've assumed too much prior knowledge.

You can't use direct INSTEON linking between the keypad and the light (in case that's what you meant) - you need to use triggers as outlined by howartp.

Re: Newbie question on delay turn off

This has been helpful. Thank you. I was using direct linking which I removed and set up two triggers per your suggestion and was successful. However, in doing so, I've lost the ability to click & hold on a button on the keypad to adjust the brightness. Am I missing something?

Thank you again for your continued help. I'm on v5.1.8.

I'll have to let someone with Insteon knowledge answer this question.

Re: Newbie question on delay turn off

Directly linking devices is the only way to get bright/dim to work interactively as you want. Because INSTEON links aren't conditional and don't support any kind of delay, doing both is not really possible.
