Controlling Kids' LED Light Strips

Like a lot of kids, my kids both have these light strips in their rooms.

I'm looking for a solution to automate these lights. I really just want to be able to turn them off (without cutting power with an appliance linc)

The Bond solution doesn't seems to work reliably because there's no status report and the LED infrared sensor is temperamental.
I don't want to use an appliance linc because that basically just cuts power and disables the LED remote

Has anyone else tried to automate these lights?

Since it is IR controlled,
One option would be automating IR https://www.indigodomo.com/pluginstore/113/. You will spend a pretty penny going that route.

Another option (what I did)
z-wave RGBW controller https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B081VYNF27/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
+
z-wave 4 button remote https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0799SF1KC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Then kids can use the 4 button remote to on/off, and do a couple light patterns or whatever you program the buttons to do. All fine tuning would be done via indigo.

A third option would be to possibly side-step indigo with an IR/WIFI controller. Supposedly this works with alexa or google home right out of the box, and the listing mentions smart things.... so it can probably be added to indigo... but I've never added any wifi devices so :?:
