2475SDB - In-LineLinc Relay - INSTEON Remote Control In-Line

Just received my unit and Indigo cannot recognize the device, Assume problem is that it is new. Is there a workaround? Just want to be able to turn lights on and off.

What error are you getting in the event log when you try to define and sync it? Copy/paste all the Event Log lines starting when you try to do the define and sync.

Hmmm. Glad it finally worked, but I'm suspicious that it may be in a location that has some signal noise since it took so many tries to get it to sync. If it gives you trouble when controlling or keeping status up to date, check out the signal troubleshooting page for common causes and solutions to signal issues.

Re: 2475SDB - In-LineLinc Relay - INSTEON Remote Control In-

I bit of follow-up on related problem. You are correct that the unit in question is far from my main circuits and likely having signal issues. I changed out an old X10 dimmer for a dual band switch link today and am having even more issues with signal strength, Here is the background:

My pool house has its own breaker, receiving a 100 AMP circuit from the main panel. The X10 control of its light fixture worked fine for 10 years. Last fall I installed a back-up generator and my circuits were relocated. While most of my lights are on a main panel that connects to the generator, the pool house is split off. The main power comes into my house and goes to three main breaker boxes. One has the bulk of my circuits and connects to the generator. The second seems to be mainly HVAC, and the third feeds the 100 AMP to the pool house. So it seems the pool house is more removed from the main tree of the house. The pool house switch can be controlled (dual insteon), but only after multiple attempts. Any ideas what I can do to improve performance?

Re: 2475SDB - In-LineLinc Relay - INSTEON Remote Control In-

I think I'd contact Smarthome and see if their technical support can help - I suspect that there are multiple issues going on to cause signal issues but they would have access to the experts.

Re: 2475SDB - In-LineLinc Relay - INSTEON Remote Control In-

I know it's a kludge, but what does work at my mom/sister's house is a very simple knock around; they have a single transformer feeding two meter loops (each feeding a 200 220v weatherproof panel) on a common pole. The services fan out to two houses, a barn, and a well house, each with their own secondary panel 50 to 150 yards from the central pole. Long (like 25 years) ago, we supported X10 bridging across the phases by using a single 500 v tantalum capacitor (don't remember the value, but it was pretty small) on a 220 10 amp (smallest we could get) breaker at the main pole, and as the system aged, we also had to add an X10 amplifier in one of the panels. When we retired the X10 system except for the palm pads talking to EZX10RFs in favor of Insteon last year, we had to pull the X10 booster, but left the capacitor in place, and it seems to bridging just fine, aided by the fact that on one of the legs at the main pole, we have a floodlight which is controlled by a standard switchlinc. Katie has very few dual band devices, and I'm not sure ANY of them are close enough to each other to aid in bridging, so the cap must be carrying the bulk of the load, and the Loading Light switchlinc is probably performing the function of the X10 booster. If I had money to burn, I'd probably buy a dual band switchlinc to replace the one we have and a dual band inlinelnc to hang on the other leg inside one of the main switch panels and lose the cap, letting those two devices relay incoming signals from all directions and rebroadcast them out to all the other panels.
