Post Very odd behavior from a SwitchLinc Relay
So I've got over 20 Insteon devices in my home and there's one giving me trouble. I know I have the phases of the power line solved with a phase coupler (earlier there were 3 switches not talking with the PLM, now they are fine w/ the phase coupler). This one SwitchLinc Relay just doesn't want to define and sync. I've tried both methods (holding down the up paddle and also manually typing in the address). No luck either way.

So here's what really confuses me: I created a PowerLinc Group/Scene with all of my devices (obviously this does not include the one switch I can't get to sync). I then used this to create an Action Group called 'all lights on'. I did this by Executing an Insteon Scene and selecting the group/scene I had just created. The crazy thing is this one SwitchLinc Relay actually comes on when I execute the scene on even though its not defined anywhere in Indigo. And no, I'm not creating an action group to control light/appliance and simply selecting Turn all INSTEON On as the action. And yes, I've checked the address of the SwitchLinc in question and its not anywhere in the devices I have defined in Indigo.

My only theory is this: the particular SwitchLinc Relay in question was one of the first I installed and I did so in a different location in my home then where it is installed now. When I first installed it (in the master bedroom), everything synced and behaved fine. I ended up swapping this SwitchLinc out with another one (long story - color issue). Before I did the swap, I deleted the SwitchLinc as a device in Indigo. I assumed that was all I needed to do. Is it somehow still in the background of Indigo somewhere? Is this why it comes on randomly with all the other devices in my scene? Also, why its not syncing anymore (Indigo thinks its already synced)?

Thanks for any help you can provide to my mystery.

A factory reset will remove all links - and it might solve the communication issue though it's unlikely.

When you remove an INSTEON device, if you just delete it from the DB that doesn't cause all the links to/from that device to be deleted - you'll need to remove those yourself before you delete the device.

When you say "a factory reset will remove all links", you just mean a factory reset on that one SwitchLinc Relay, right?

Ok. Thanks so much, Jay. I'll try the factory reset tonight and see if that possibly fixes the sync problem of the SwitchLinc Relay. If not, I guess I have to assume some sort of "noise issue" on the power line. I do have a Samsung TV, which some people on this forum have reported noise issues with.

So the factory reset solved the mystery regarding the SwitchLinc turning on w/ the scene on function, but I still can't sync the device with the PLM. I guess its a noise issue. I need to try to isolate the problem, but in doing so I'm going to need to move my MacMini and PLM to a different outlet (this way I can turn the TV and all AV equipment off). If I move the PLM to a different outlet, this won't mess up all the devices I do have linked, right? (assuming I keep the PLM on the opposite phase of my access point). In other words, all of my Insteon devices that are linked don't care which outlet the PLM is plugged into after they've been synced, right?

Correct.

If you're just testing you can use a long extension cord from an outlet in a different room to the PowerLinc.
