Strange PowerLink and MacMini behavior with power outages

Living in Alaska Power outages is a common event. I have a UPS attached to my MacMini and have the Mac set to "Start up automatically after a power failure". When I have a power failure the MacMini never automatically starts up and when I do restart by selecting it's power button and Indigo restarts I have to unplug and plug back in my 2413U PowerLink Modem. If I don't it shows up in red and crossed out in my home screen. What gives? For the MacMini to restart is there another setting that I'm missing? And why would I need to plug back in my Modem?

Thanks for any advice.

If you have a Mac on a UPS, what's shutting it down? Is the a serial/USB connection to the UPS that's commanding shutdown? As I understand it, a UPS commanded shutdown is not considered a "power failure", so the automatic restart doesn't happen.

What do you have the Shutdown Options set to in System Preferences?

Only solution I know of is to get a bigger UPS so that it never needs to shut down.

And FYI, although I don't have the UPS/Restart issue, I DO have the PowerLInc not being recognized whenever I restart the computer. Like you, I just unplug, and replug it, and its good to go. This seems to be a driver problem where the OS will load the wrong driver at startup, but load the right one once its unplugged.

Good to know about the driver issue, will read the link provided. As for my UPS, turns out my battery is toast. I am usually not around for power outages so I simulated one by unplugging from the wall. Battery lasted about 5 seconds with only the MacMini installed and running.

Yeah, that's pretty dead.
