So, my wife and myself have published simple blogs/sites to MobileMe using iWeb and are pretty happy with the simplicity, etc... But with Apple moving to iCloud, they are closing down MobileMe and the functionality won't be available in iCloud.

So, I want to keep using iWeb and figure now is maybe the time to secure myself a domain name and some hosting space... somewhere. Of course, this is the kind of thing that is overwhelming with options/ads etc.. when googling for it, so I figured everyone here is a Mac user and probably with a higher-than-average level of experience with this stuff so it seemed like a good place to ask.

What hosting services do you guys use?
What about domain name registrars?
Any real tips/tricks/things I need to know.

Sorry for being so open-ended. Just not quite sure where to start.

I've used omnis.com for over 10 years and have never had a single problem. Unlimited storage/bandwidth, ssh, unlimited subdomains, unlimited emails, mysql, etc. for $5.95 per month. I use a mix of omnis and godaddy for registrars, although I'm slowly moving everything to omnis. I bought a few domains 'on sale' from godaddy, but I can't stand their control panel. BTW with omnis, you can't point as many TLDs as to want to your single account for no extra charge. So as an example mysite.com is your main account and has a home directory structure of /www/mysite. You can register myothersite.com with omnis (or anyone else and point it to omnis) and they'll set it up under /www/myothersite.

I use IX Web Hosting for web hosting and Sam's Direct for domain hosting. IX Web Hosting sounds like it has similar features to the Omnis service mentioned by roussell. Their service is satisfactory, but not stellar (as is to be expected for the low cost). Sam's Direct is low-budget as well (I've never needed to use their support, so I don't know it's quality), but they have a fuller-featured advanced DNS editor than GoDaddy offers and, since I'm a "power user" of sorts, I like being able to set my own DNS specifics like TTLs, SOAs, and MXs.

Simple service will do for me. I just want to be able to host a couple of web sites, and possibly have my own domain name.

Web sites/domains etc... is kind of new to me (i.e. I'm the kind of guy who uses iWeb...) so the simpler, and more noob-oriented the better.

Using bluehost.com for hosting, and godaddy for registrar.
