Garage Door

Is there a tutorial on setting up the: "INSTEON Garage Door Control & Status" kit?

On to my next project...

Try the Garage Door Alert wiki page.

Re: Garage Door

I have to say the garage door kit was one of the easiest to install.

Question about viewing it on indigo:

I started with the door open when I set up the device (It's an detached garage, and no door other than the main door)

So I set up the device, it shows open and close. When it's closed, the button looks blue. When I press the button, the door doesn't open, the button turns gray. When I press the binary number ( one is the only option) the garage door activates.

Am I only suppose to press the binary number, not the button?

Re: Garage Door

Now the door will not activate with indigo. It shows if its open or closed, but I can't trigger the door with the software.

Re: Garage Door

You do use the Binary 1 output to turn the relay ON/OFF which simulates the button press for the garage. I normally don't control my garage door from the Devices panel on Indigo Touch, instead I built a simple Control Page with a button that shows the open/close state and on pressing that button I have it turn Binary 1 output ON.

Regarding it no longer working: did you follow the instructions on the Wiki exactly? Copy/paste what the Event Log shows into a reply.

Additionally, go into the garage with your iPhone and toggle Binary 1 output. Do you hear the relay clicking?

When I open the garage with the door opener, the status does change in Indigo from closed to open. I created the isGarageDoorOpen Variable from the tutorial.

I do hear a click when I use my iphone and press the on and off button, and also the 1 button. I don't get why the button is on and off and a binary button.

It opened and closed yesterday, but I don't see what im missing.

Building a control panel button is an option, but if the device is in Indigo touch already, shouldn't work from there?

You are correct -- either technique will work. You can just press the power icon and it will do the same thing as toggling the binary output.

I'm not sure why it isn't working. So you hear the relay click, then a few seconds later it should automatically click again. But the garage doesn't open/close?

Yes, it's odd it worked yesterday but then stopped.

I'm going to double check all the connections, but the status is changing do some of the device is working.

Re: Garage Door

Everything seems to work now.

1. I unplugged everything and let it set for a few minutes.

2. The Garage door kit came with the wires installed on the I/0 device. They were very close, I wonder if they were shorting out. I adjusted that.

3. Reconnected everything

4. Plugged it in and it fires away.

Can't explain it.

Re: Garage Door

AHHHHHH!

Now none of my other remotes work, but the Indigo Touch works. I hope I just have to have the remotes "Relearn" the codes.

Has anyone had this problem before?

Would the I/O device be conflicting with the remote garage door openers signal?

Re: Garage Door

I was on the phone with tech support with Insteon. They said my other garage door openers should work with this kit.

They said it sounds like the program is overriding the other remotes commands to open and close the door.

Here is a screen shot of what I have set for the I/O. Is there a break down of what each of these boxes mean? And which ones should be set?

Re: Garage Door

Follow the instructions on the wiki exactly. Under section 2. V. it explains what module settings to use. Be sure and press Upload Settings when you are done.

Re: Garage Door

I double checked everything and it still didn't work.

I then clicked the "Learn" button on my garage door, and reset my remote. That seem to do it. So my garage door remotes, and my Indigo Touch are both activating my door. Indigo is showing the door status, all is right with the world.

Re: Garage Door

Great -- glad it is up and working. Strange that the garage door somehow lost knowledge of your existing remotes.
