Which Mac mini to use for Indigo Server

Hi All,

I am currently running Indigo 7 on the latest model Mac mini ( Late 2014, 2.6 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3). It is my main computer and I'm also running SecuritySpy and various other applications. I've decided to get a separate Mac mini to run Indigo. The 2 models I'm looking at are:

Apple Mac Mini Intel Dual Core i5 1.4GHz 4GB 500GB OS X ($489)
Apple Mac Mini Intel Dual Core i5 2.6GHz 8GB 1TB OS X ($649)

Would the cheaper one work well enough with only Indigo server on it? Would it still work well enough if I ran Indigo server in addition to SecuritySpy ? I don't want to spend more than I need to if the slower one would work just as well. Thanks for any input on this.

I run SS and Indigo (plus occasionally sending music and/or video to devices in the house) on a Mac Mini late 2012; 2.3 ghz i7; 16g memory model 6,2 without problems. I find that SS (I'm still on version 3) with four cameras takes up a lot of resources. Not a problem with my system, but I'd be worried about the smaller configuration you are considering.

The lower model will be fine for just Indigo. You need the faster one if you're going to run both Indigo and SS. Security Spy takes a lot more CPU than Indigo, scaling directly with the number of cameras.

Thanks for the replies. I noticed the SecuritySpy server definitely uses more resources than the Indigo server. I guess I'll spend the extra $160 and be on the safe side.
Thanks again.
