Re: Nest vs Venstar Thermostats
This seems to be the only way, now at least, to integrate Nest with Indigo:
https://github.com/johnray/Indigo-Nest- ... tat-PluginIt seems to work ok, but the default thermostat UI (in both the desktop and mobile versions of Indigo) doesn't take into consideration Away mode, so the setpoint you see isn't accurate when Nest is Away. (It shows the default setpoint for Nest's schedule, not the Away setpoint - for example, at noon my target temp is 80, but my Away mode target is 84; the Indigo UI shows the setpoint as 80, but the current temp as 84. At first this seems like a severe discrepancy.) Also, manually changing the temp isn't lightning fast because this plugin apparently issues its commands via Nest's web "API" (it's really not an API at all) and doesn't communicate with the hardware itself. That's not too inconvenient though, since with Indigo and Nest your HVAC should be pretty much hands-off anyway.
I'm currently using Nest's learned and programmed schedule, and the only thing I am automating with Indigo is Away mode. So instead of waiting two hours to go into Auto-Away mode, I am forcing my thermostat into "manual" Away mode using the Indigo plugin after about 30 minutes of us leaving the house.
I haven't tried any other Indigo-compatible thermostat so I can't make any comparisons.
