Intriguing but daunting

This looks like it has huge potential, but getting from “let’s try this for use case x” to “I have everything I need to do this” is very confusing.

Could you link to some of the add on sensors that will work, and maybe guides to how to incorporate them into the ESPhome software? What I’ve found on the web are fluffy “this is so easy!” Vagueness or super technical “we assume you’re well versed in programming and ESP hardware” blurbs.

I assume that there’s more to it than buying that $22 sparkfun board, purchasing one of these sensors https://esphome.io/components/sensor/t6615.html and snapping it on. Actually, the attaching of the sensor to the board is the single thing that seems to be most mysterious to me.

SmartThings refugee, so happy to be on Indigo. Monterey on a base M1 Mini w/Harmony Hub, Hue, DomoPad, Dynamic URL, Device Extensions, HomeKitLink, Grafana, Plex, uniFAP, Fantastic Weather, Nanoleaf, LED Simple Effects, Bond Home, Camect.
