clean up links in PLM

bob Joined: Jun 14, 2006 Posts: 500	clean up links in PLM I use the Simplehomenet Utility to read/write links. My 2413U has 55 links but half of these reference Insteon addresses that are not in my system and I want to delete them. Can Indigo rebuilt the links in the PLM? bob

If you are just talking about the links in the PLM itself, then you should be able to safely clear all of them and then re-sync them via the Interface Options... button inside the preferences dialog. _________________

Will deleting the links then re-syncing add them if they were not there in the first place? Do you normally add an AcessPoint as you would any device? thanks, bob

bob Joined: Jun 14, 2006 Posts: 500	Re: clean up links in PLM Matt, Reading the PLM links shows I have 38 using Indigo & the SHN Utility. I went through my devices and I only have 26. I deleted the unused/old links using Simplehomenet Utility. When I re-sync and read in Indigo, all the ones I deleted get added back. All the links I deleted are either devices I no longer have or are not in the Indigo device list. How can I clear them? bob

matt (support) Site Admin Joined: Jan 27, 2003 Posts: 11689 Location: Texas	Re: clean up links in PLM Choose the Interface->Manage INSTEON PowerLinc Links... menu item, then look through the links (sorry you have to choose from the number group/scene popup menu item for every one!) to see if you can find under which group/scene the unused links are. If you copy/paste the Event Log that shows Indigo re-adding the links when it syncs, then that might help us find out where they are. Look for any links that are to undefined devices and try to delete those. If the delete button is disabled, then hold down the OPTION key while you choose the menu item above and it should then be enabled. _________________

I looked at all numbers up to 250 and all are blank. Is this to set the PLM as responder to devices? Yes, the PLM has to be set as a responder so that local changes (at the switch) are broadcast back to Indigo. The Manage INSTOEN PowerLinc Links dialog is to create outgoing group/scene commands. So where you want to control several modules at once. The Event Log above doesn't help since it isn't showing Indigo writing back any links. I'm curious to see the Event Log that shows what you described here: When I re-sync and read in Indigo, all the ones I deleted get added back. _________________

bob Joined: Jun 14, 2006 Posts: 500	Re: clean up links in PLM Matt, I'll delete the links in SHN Utility and post the links list. Then I'll read the links in Indigo and re-sync then post those also. I am using SHN Utility to write links to the PLM as a responder. For example I have an EZX10RF. I write 4 links to the EZX10RF to set it as the controller for group 1-4 then I write 4 links to the PLM to set it as a responder to the EZX10RF for group 1-4. bob

They are probably from modules that you at one point had? Anyhow, they are harmless and cannot easily be removed from Indigo. They will not cause any type of performance problem. They are just added to the PowerLinc so that Indigo can see any commands coming from those modules. They aren't used when the PowerLinc sends group/scene commands (if you had any) since they are back links from the remote modules. I'll add to our feature todo list the ability to automatically cleanup these types of stale links. _________________

Can a clean install of Indigo remove them or are they stored in the databse file itself? By using the SHN Utility I have improved my system. Reading links using the SHN Utility sometimes worked and sometimes not. I found it was due to noise - when I unplugged my Macbook Pro adapter I could read links and when I plugged it in it would read a few then stop. I installed a filterlinc and now works great. thanks, bob

I got this response to a SHN post; For direct relay control without using Groups and links issue an Insteon Direct command 0x45 in the cmd1 field to turn On a Relay. The Relay number is in the cmd2 field. The relay number in the cmd2 field origins at zero, cmd2=00 for relay 1, cmd2=01 for relay 2. A cmd1 value of 0x46 with the same cmd2 convention turns the relay Off.
