Something about communication with the PowerLinc has been compromised. You might want to reinstall Indigo just to make sure that the upgrade didn't whack anything. I had an odd permissions issue on the kernel extension that caused some interesting problems when I did the upgrade (but nothing like this). Just remember to back up everything to make sure it's safe before you do the reinstall.

What version of Indigo are you running?

Post Also getting stalled pipe under Snow Leopard
After upgrading to Snow Leopard, I'm also getting stalled pipe issues with my PowerLinc 2414U. Since installed Snow Leopard I've installed Indigo 4.0.2 and 4.1.0 beta 2 and then 4.1.0 beta 3. This issue has occurred with all three of these builds of Indigo.

Selecting Connect from the Interface menu fixes everything until the next failure, but I have to do that manually.

Those symptoms indicate one of 3 things:

1) A bad USB cable or hub
2) Excessive line noise is causing the PowerLinc to stop responding to Indigo
3) A bad PowerLinc

For 1, try a different cable and make sure it's plugged directly into a USB port on the Mac. For 2, try using a long extension cord and plug the PowerLinc into different outlets in the house (temporarily for debugging purposes).

I suppose it may be some odd interaction with Snow Leopard, but we only have these two reports and so far I haven't been able to reproduce it. Let us know what you find.

It worked for over a year in its current configuration until the day I upgraded to snow leopard ... so it isn't interference, the USB cable or a bad powerlinc.

However ... the new b4 seems to have resolved the problem :-)

Nothing has changed in recent betas with how Indigo does USB communication. So either the SL install messed up something and a new install of Indigo fixed it, or your PowerLinc is starting to malfunction. We'll keep our fingers crossed it was the former. :-)

Post Similar issue for me
I've been having a similar issue. For me it is every 2-3 days that the server appears to lock up and I have been restarting the server or reconnecting the interface to resolve it. What I notice when it locks up is the progress bar in the lower left where the indigo home logo is and the PowerLinc V2 description is just stays solid green, and the PowerLinc V2 text is red. Quite an nuisance when away from home using the Indigo Touch when this freezes as all remote control is lost... I thought b4 might fix it, so have been waiting and it happened just as often when I installed it. Please let me know if I can send you any log files, etc.

I have a PowerLinc Controller 2414U, purchased about a month ago.

Here are the event log failures I see.

2009-09-22 18:30:01 Error usb data read: stalled pipe (0xE000404B)
2009-09-22 18:30:01 Error usb data read: clearing pipes

2009-09-22 18:30:01 Error usb data read: failed2 (0xE00002EB)
2009-09-22 18:30:01 Power Failure possible power failure
2009-09-22 18:30:04 Error lost connection with interface

Help would be greatly appreciated, this needs to be reliable to work for me, not sure if I can get a refund on Indigo Pro if I can't get this working.

As stated above (and reinforced in this thread), the errors you're seeing are not because of Indigo bugs (at least we've yet to reproduce them and nobody that's replaced their PowerLinc has reported continued issues): they indicate one of 3 things:

1) A bad USB cable or hub
2) Excessive line noise is causing the PowerLinc to stop responding to Indigo
3) A bad PowerLinc

For 1, try a different cable and make sure it's plugged directly into a USB port on the Mac. For 2, try using a long extension cord and plug the PowerLinc into different outlets in the house (temporarily for debugging purposes). For 3, try doing a factory reset to see if maybe the PowerLinc has just gotten confused.

Post 2414 lockup
Thanks so much for the fast response. I'm a server programmer myself (monitor remote medical devices) so I do think this is solvable by simply implementing some recovery logic that is simply a disconnect/connect when this type of error situation occurs "Error lost connection with interface ", I don't see how that would hurt anything.

For a server that provides remote access to devices, this kind of connection robustness would be a great feature and even though it masks a buggy device or hub, etc, it would be perceived to be a more robust product. Is there a reason that I am unaware of as to why the Indigo server can't reestablish the connection when this failure occurs?

I will try your suggestions and reply back with results in a few days.

Thanks again for your help.

Indigo already has reconnect logic - the PowerLinc is failing in some odd way. When Indigo gets the stalled pipe errors, it issues multiple pipe clear commands (which obviously in this scenario didn't work) and when something disappears then reappears on the USB bus and the OS announces that there's a new device we also reconnect. So, this failure scenario is an extraordinary in some respect.

When it gets into this failure mode, exactly how to you get it working again? You can try creating a trigger on "Interface Connection Failure" that has an action of "Reset Interface Connections".

I can stop/start the server through the UI to get it working or I can choose Disconnect/Connect on the PowerLinc Interface (also through the UI).

Thanks again! I have multiple things to try here, I do have it plugged in with an extension cord at the moment, trying that option first.

Wait, when it's in this state the "Disconnect" menu option is still enabled? Are they both enabled?

Sorry, I cannot remember the exact details, if it does it again I will note this and let you know. Is there a way to attach snapshots to a posting, or can I email them to someone?
