Quick Variables Question

So I've read this page concerning Variables..
http://www.perceptiveautomation.com/ind ... Intro.html

But what I don't understand is how to link a Variable I've created, say iTunes Volume, to the actual volume of iTunes.

I guess in my mind, these variables would auto update based on a device state, but I just don't see how to link a variable to a particular device, or it's state..

Clearly, I'm missing something.

The rest, I think will be easy!

Re: Quick Variables Question

In general, you can use device states in the same places you can use variables so most of the time it's not necessary. If you want to do it though, create a trigger that watches the device state and any time it changes use the Variable Actions->Insert Device State into Variable action to update the variable.

Re: Quick Variables Question

Yup.

After I posted I realized that the Variables is mostly likely designed to see all the minutia of devices in one place.. Doesn't make sense to update a variable from a device, when most of the time the status of a device itself could be used as a trigger anyway.

Still I can see how this could be useful for trouble shooting issues and problems, not to mention seeing all this available info in the iOS app.. :)

Thanks for the info.
