Keeping devices in sync with each other

Wasn't there a discussion here or on the wiki about how to keep devices in sync with each other? Like two way switches?

My searching for device sync turns up info about Indigo to device sync with the link manager.

Re: Keeping devices in sync with each other

The multi-way wiki article touches on it. There are various ways of doing it.

I've got a feature request for the new Device Group device type to have all devices in a group remain in sync. Not sure when I'll get back to thinking about that though.

I think the Wiki is what I was looking for.

There is a trigger Action to Insert Device State into Variable. I keep wanting to select one that Inserts Device State into a Device. Indigo would have to figure out how to deal with devices that don't match like dimming and non dimming. Probably wouldn't work for everything.

That's also on the request list - just haven't had the time to think about it yet.

Re: Keeping devices in sync with each other

Is there an easy way to insert a device state into variable? I had been using the Action Collection plugin to do this, but Indigo 6 removed it, thus breaking several of my triggers.

It's still there and it shouldn't have broken anything - it's just directly integrated into the action list rather than being listed as a separate plugin: Variable Actions -> Insert Device State into Variable

It appears to be broken for me. Last time I had this issue, I reinstalled the plugin, but every time I update it gets deleted again.

Not sure how this is happening (note that you won't see the Action Collection plugin any more in the plugin folders). Are there any errors in the event log when you start the server?

Re: Keeping devices in sync with each other

I have no clue what was causing the problem. No errors upon startup. In fact, it showed that the plugin would load, but when I went to Library/Application Support/Perceptive Automation/Plugins or Plugins (disabled) the plugin was not there.

I finally gave up, copied my database, preferences, & everything from IndigoWebServer and then moved Library/Perceptive Automation to the trash & performed a reinstall. Everything seems to be okay now.
