Re: New to home automation, just moved house

Link doesn't seem to work.. What was in the kit and how much was it? I usually get my stuff from vesternet or ukautomation... Can't you get the components there?

Re: New to home automation, just moved house

Also, last question on the alarm (for now ;) )
What's a safe way to connect in the bell and test it - without making a huge noise for hours on end that I can't switch off? (slightly worried about it going off and annoying the neighbours!)

Wire it up inside and wrap it in something to muffle it.. Say a duvet? In all honesty I've not actually got a bell on mine, the way I see it is when was the last time you heard a siren go off and think that it was actually a burglary? I will eventually get some interior sounders when I get smoke detectors to integrate into the system but that's more for safety than intruder alarms

Hi All - I'm getting there, now designing the custom control page! :)

Re: Fibaro dimmers. I have an existing double dimmer switch. Do I need 1 or 2 Fibaro 500w dimmer modules to dim both of the lights from this one (double) switch?

Two. One for each device you want to dim

Re: New to home automation, just moved house

Ouch! Now I can understand how this gets expensive....

Trying to figure out what my first purchase should be.

I'm thinking either Rolling Shutter with Garage Door sensor for the garage doors, or a dimmer, or a double switch (1 module to switch 2 on/off lights?), or a motion sensor.. but then it can't really trigger that much without any light / shutters gadgets...

Just started using IFTTT to keep tabs on my location, it seems none of the Indigo plugins are actually any good at actually detecting who's home and who's not?
I've got IFTTT so send an email to say when I'm at home / work then I'll configure Indigo to check the email account to see where IFTTT thinks I am - pretty simple I think!

Yep, expensive! But worth it I'd say!

Just remember the relay needs neutral at the switch

Re: New to home automation, just moved house

Any reason why you would buy a single relay switch when for the same price you can get a double relay switch? (Fibaro)
Might as well buy a double just in case you want to run another wire into the second switch in future?

I was going to put one of the doubles behind a double light switch.
I've got my first dimmer arriving today, although I'm still waiting for the Envisalink and Z-Wave module to arrive... but I've got it doing Onkyo / Weather / Location / Sonos etc.. to get used to the actions and devices setup !

If you're talking Fibaro, the single supports 3kw switching, whereas the double is 2x 1.5kw.

Re: New to home automation, just moved house

Ah cool - thanks, good point :)

Quick question, alarm is now fully working.
Other alarm systems I've used will stop the countdown and set the alarm immediately when the front door closes.
Mine continues the countdown until it finishes, regardless of when the front door is opened / closed when set to Away mode.

Is there a way to set it to set when the door is opened then closed (i.e., we have left the house)
I don't fancy standing there for another 30-60 seconds waiting for the alarm to set, just in case it doesn't set properly...

Also, I tested the alarm and I have the Front door sensor in a permanent state of 'tripped' in Indigo.
I've set and un-set the alarm since, how do I clear the tripped state?

Re: New to home automation, just moved house

There was a concept in previous DSC alarms of 'Final set' - when you open and close the final door, the alarm sets immediately. However I can't find any reference to it in current manuals.

Our exit timer is only set to 10 seconds - do you need it to be 60?

I've never tripped our alarm and looked at Indigo; have you cleared the alert on your panel? (*3)

Re: New to home automation, just moved house

If I'm remembering this correctly does it not arm once the front door is closed if it's set as the exit door? Whilst I only require a short exit delay of 15secs I receive the emails from Indigo the moment I shut the front door, and I'm pretty sure there's still some time left on the clock. (I use an iCloud account for notifications and they are push emails, which is why they appear almost instantly).

Re: New to home automation, just moved house

I kinda thought that might be the case, but haven't had a chance to test it whilst others are in the house.
