Alternative door sensor

Hi all,

I have a door for which I need to know the status.
Unfortunately z wave signal is not reaching that far.
I have at the moment an Alexa door sensor which works fine but I have no integration in Indigo.
I also thought about a zigbee sensor through Hue Bridge but a Hue lamp at the same position does not work (same range problem).

Any idea/suggestion?

Thanks
Marco

Re: Alternative door sensor

Sounds like you either need a z wave repeater or a hard wired sensor.

Re: Alternative door sensor

What do you mean with hard wired? I mean, ok, with wires, but how does it work?

Re: Alternative door sensor

Is there a lamp or light somewhere between the door sensor and your Indigo Mac you might want to control? You can get a Z-Wave lamp or appliance module for very cheap and it will most likely relay the commands to/from the sensor. Aeotec also makes dedicated repeaters, but I would recommend getting a functional module if there is something you might want to automate.

Re: Alternative door sensor

The repeater is probably the simpler way to go. But a variety of Z-wave sensors have leads that you can attach to a simple open/close magnetic switch or any other kind of switch, and read the state from the leads.

But that would require running the wire, so getting a repeater is easier, plus lets you automate something else too if it's an outlet device.

Re: Alternative door sensor

So now I have place a Fibaro Switch and a Figaro Wall Plug in the same room of the Fibaro door sensor and they are working fine.
I also did a re-routing/optimization of three devices, but the door sensor did not work (I see the blue led but no messages in Indigo log)

Re: Alternative door sensor

It is strange that the door/window sensor isn't working if the others are. Have you ever been able to successfully include that door/window sensor with your Z-Wave controller / Z-Stick? And could you then do the initial sync in Indigo?

Also try temporarily moving the sensor to be a few feet from your Mac just to make sure it is working..

Re: Alternative door sensor

Yes, it worked before.
And yes, if I move it near the Mac it works fine

Re: Alternative door sensor

When you did the optimization on all 3 devices in that room, did you wake the door/window sensor first?

Re: Alternative door sensor

I tried to do it, but without success.
In logs I saw the optimization was queued and and the schedules wake up the optimization went through

Re: Alternative door sensor

Maybe one of the Aeotec range extenders will help in this case.
