Hi Jim

jimM wrote:

I also opened my second MS today and fund that the jumpers were not reversed in that one. Hmmm. So I have one with jumpers 3 and 4 reversed and the other one is fine.

I'm curious, are the revision stickers on the back of the motion sensors different? And how about the firmware version as shown in Indigo's Device dialog?
I believe most people use IR emitters attached to the front of their equipment so that Indigo can turn them on/off. But my receiver has an 1/8" mono plug on the back for an IR control input. Instead of using an emitter can I just plug into that with a male-male 1/8" plug instead?

I was looking at the IRTrans LAN Controller and it just says it has ports for external emitters, but doesn't say about directly connecting to equip. I'm not even sure if that's my best option but I know everyone here has had good luck with the IRTrans stuff.
Halting the sprinklers if rain is due is a great idea.

Just make sure to set a variable that you did so, for instance, "HALTEDSPRINTERSONDATE" would hold the value of the date they were halted on.

Then another applescript would clear that variable if/when it rained.

It could also ensure that if the variable still holds the date and the date is over three days old without being cleared, sprinklers would be re-enabled and the variable would be cleared cos obviously the weather ppl at NOAA were wrong. Sorry for going overboard but I am a computer programmer -- IF-THEN statements are my life.

Maybe we could start a "pay for this and you will get it added" method of feature consideration
That's really innovative. I've got a Cat Genie (www.catgenie.com) that I love. But, I actually don't like the fragrance of the cleaning fluid it uses, so this would be perfect to run during the genie's cleaning cycle.

Mine's in the utility room. I wonder if there's a way to plumb it into the dryer vent with some kind of one-way flap?

I'm using Smarthome's Powerlink system (which is a rebranded Venstar). It was VERY easy to set up, monitoring can be had for very cheap, and it can signal over X10. If you set up Indigo to catch it's X10 transmissions, you can pass them on to Insteon modules (or just assign an x10 address to your insteon stuff if it's a simple config).

The price was reasonable and it's very expandable. As much as I like the M1, it was overkill in both price, complexity, and features for my needs.

Does anyone know how to do this? What I was thinking was using my Nokia 770 and connecting it (cable) to a touchscreen monitor (like 15 inches) and mounting it in the Kitchen to be able to control my control pages via the web. Is this possible? I have seen people using the 770 directly like this, but I think for the wife to use it, it would have to be a bigger screen. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys!

Any news on RF Transmit support? I'm considering to buy a CM15Pro (http://www.marmitek.com/en/catalogus/product.php?subgroep=83&product=415) because I need to transmit X10 commands to another room which is electrically disconnected.
Add-A-Wire will definitely not work in this scenario.

You need to get new thermostat wire pulled. A single sheath will have either 4 or 5 wires in it, go ahead and get the 5 wire version since it isn't going to cost much more.

However, before you do that you need to inspect your furnace to see if it even has the capability to be controlled by a modern thermostat. If you take the cover off you'll see the control board, and it will be really obvious where the wires connect and what they are for. If you don't see a whole set of terminals then you may be out of luck.

I have never used them until recently. I did quick test and turned off the controller. turned on the CFL (which happens to be directly above the controller so probably the same circuit) and checked the recessed lights. They had come on on their own. Couldn't get the test to repeat however. Any filtering devices for CFLs?

Different CFLs cause varying levels of power line (and RF) noise problems. Unfortunately, I haven't found a good guide that tells what brands/models of CFLs produce less noise. Here is a thread that discusses the problem a bit. The last poster recommends CFLs from Costco, but I'm sure they rotate in different brands so you never know. I have a few CFLs here (random sampling of brands) and no problems.

I'm not too surprised that SQLite is having a hard time starting back up if you have a kernel panic while it is potentially modifying the database. I think maybe the database was locked/corrupt and so it failed to open the first time, but then worked the second time for some reason. Not sure why exactly, but I think you need to figure out what is causing your kernel panics. If you are getting those, then your system isn't stable and you are going to end up with corrupt files that may cause the entire OS to become corrupt.
